food, food, food

wonderful good food....
Plain and simple....
Wow,  real fresh whole grain rice, super fresh veggies and azuki beans....... so simple and so good.
Sometimes the simple things in life are the best to focus on for one's happiness.
The K.I.S.S principle- (keep it simple sweetie:)

I have slowly been shifting my diet toward a macrobiotic way of eating and cooking for over a year.

First cutting out dairy-- reduction in migraines,
then cutting out most flour and gluten products--reduction in stomach pains, and ability to eat tomatoes again without joint pain,
then cutting out most meats-- more energy, again less joint pain,

I needed to really shift in how I cooked-- I didn't know what to do!

Having spent two weeks at the Kushi Institute helped with my cooking skills, recipes and an easy way of thinking about meal planning.
My stay at Kushi was an interesting one, however the focus for this blog entry is simple....the food!
My all time favorites were.....
Millet with cauliflower;
Fish over Leeks;
and anything with Daikon radish!

The teachers were great:)
Half way through my first Kushi week, I realized  that a wonderful food blog I had discovered in the Fall was written by one of the Kushi teachers, Chris. His blog, six flavors.blogspot.com has lots of great recipes.  However, the love he puts into his cooking, one has to experience yourself:)

Key Largo Haven Style

We all have different ideas of the good life. I am a manatee and hangout in the canal behind Blue Keys Haven and the bay.

There is always a gentle breeze caressing the skin, beautiful sky, palm trees, quiet, beautiful water, coral reefs. Tropical Island living less than an hour drive from Miami.

Good ideas, good thoughts, good teachers, good life

The focus and discipline of music, listening and creating music. An art form that requires constant attention through time to create. When the music stops, the continuance can be felt in the vibrations of the sound waves and then only in the memory of the listener.

A tool for meditation, for issuing presence of mind and body - into balance with the energy and soul. When the reverberations of the music enhances the healthy balance of vibrations of the entire self, body and soul, then healing, loving, living is happening.

music has been an ever constant in my life.

Herbie Girl

Herbie Girl was a Maximilian Pionus parrot, nicknamed the apartment parrot since they don't screech like some of the larger parrots; they 'cheep', 'chirp' and in Herbie's case, also said 'please', 'thank you', 'I love you', 'no' and various other sounds.

She definitely knew how to get herself understood and in no uncertain terms ruled the roost where the cat was concerned, nurtured my canaries, was totally smitten in love with Chanoch and was my faithful companion for 30 years.

Being that she was a small parrot, quiet and calm, it made it easy for her to be with me in many circumstances. Which was good since she hated being alone. So along she went. She went through Boston University, traveled throughout America east of the Mississippi via planes, cars, bikes and trains. She helped in my Mother's dress shop, worked along with my secretaries in my practice, stayed at some of the best hotels and dance camps, cuddled up to watch movies, joined us for meals, She was an integral part of my life and I think she charmed many of those she met.

I knew this day would come- that I would have to say goodbye. Her species- Maximilian Pionus - life expectancy is about 25 yrs. There were a few close calls over the years when I thought I might lose her but when I saw her aging a bit and year 27 went to 28, went to 29.... I knew I had to start preparing for the inevitable.

That funny green bird was a bright light:) Enjoy the wonderful, silly and amazing stories. I'll be adding stories and I hope you will too.
Cheers & cheep to you,
Herbie's Mom

the love of beautiful bikes

how fun to roll,
moving,
translating through space,
just a look, a line, a tool, a machine, a toy, a transport, a needed machine,
the personalities, are characters creating moods and colors in our lives,
just another way to feel life across the globe.

Did you have a favorite bike?

These were the great bikes that carried me through the years :)
three tricycles, 1950's glow - More power than a Ducati
Stingray, banana seat, "Pip Pip", hot pink, best ridden in cowboy boots, the seat fits 3 comfortably- when you are age 7.
Harley, "Big Boy"-friend's,
Raleigh Rampar -my black steed! The work horse of all.
Raleigh green- "Old faithful"
Mountain trek- "Go Joe"
Vespa, "Bambina"- ("Babe")
Cannonball, "Challa", ("Grace")

Raleigh Green, "Old Faithful" is ready to get back out into more life. It is time. Many interesting people are interested in her. I must do justice and post more pics!
